| DANGER: Use extreme caution when deleting items from Windows Explorer. If you delete a resource in Windows Explorer that has a Cloud Icon it will be deleted from both your local computer and the Sharepoint cloud location. It is a soft delete and can be recovered within 90 days, but after that period it will be gone forever! |
To remove a Sharepoint site for Windows Explorer, follow these outlined steps:
- Locate the Microsoft OneDrive application in your System Tray.
- Left-click on the OneDrive icon. A Menu will slide up. Click on Help and Settings:
- This will reveal another Menu. Click on Settings:
- Locate and click on the Account tab.
- This will list locations for syncing. Carefully select the SharePoint folder you would like to remove, and click Stop Sync:
- Another window will pop up to confirm. If you are certain, click the Stop sync button:
- In Windows Explorer, the Sharepoint folder will still be present, but it won't have the Local (
), Cloud (
), nor Sync (
) icons in the Status column
- As long as those Icons are not present, you may safely delete the local resources without also deleting the cloud resources.
- If the Status icons are still present (DO NOT DELETE), go back to Step 5 (above) and try again.
