How to Update and Change Your Network User Account Password

Important: Changing the account password connected to a Microsoft account will also change the password of your Microsoft services, including Outlook, OneDrive, Teams, etc., associated with your network account. Also, in order to change your password, you must be connected to BGV's corporate network. If your computer is not connected to BGV's corporate network, please connect to the VPN prior to attempting to update your password. |
To change your network account password on Windows, use these steps:
- If you are working on-site, ensure your laptop or workstation is connected to the BGV's network
- If you are working remotely, connect to the VPN prior to moving to the next step.
- While logged into Windows, press CTRL+ALT+DEL
- The Security Options Menu will display
- Select Change a password (as shown below)
- Enter your Old password in the corresponding field
- Enter your desired New password in both of the corresponding fields (Confirm password).
- Passwords must be complex:
- At least 12-characters
- Include numbers (0123-9, etc)
- Include symbols (!@#$>?, etc)
- Include lowercase letters (abc-z, etc)
- Include uppercase letters (ABC-Z, etc)
- Click the Arrow or hit the Enter button to save your changes
- Windows will report if the password has been successfully updated.
- Now that the password is updated, ensure that your computer is in sync with our network

- Lock your computer
- Press the Windows Key + L on your keyboard to lock your computer
- Alternatively, go to the Start Menu and locate your account icon
- Lock your computer

- Click on the icon (as highlighted above) and select Lock to lock your computer
- When on the Login Screen, enter your new password to log in.

Once your computer has logged you in, your computer and the new password will be in sync.
NOTE: The final task will involce re-authenticating with your Office365 applications (Outlook, Teams, etc). After a short time, a Microsoft window will ask you to authenticate. Follow the prompts and use your new password to authenticate.
